The Washington Redskins have never defeated Cam Newton. When the Carolina Panthers roll into FedEx Field on Sunday for a Week 6 showdown, the Redskins will be looking to beat the 2015 NFL MVP for the first time in six tries dating back to 2009. Newton has yet to throw an interception against the Redskins, and with the Redskins secondary dealing with some turmoil involving star cornerback (and former Panther) Josh Norman, Newton may skate free without tossing an INT again.Having dynamic backfield pass-catcher Christian McCaffrey helps, too. McCaffrey, in just his second season, is averaging 103 all-purpose yards per game through Week 5. With perennial All-Pro tight end Greg Olsen returning to the lineup on Sunday, Newton will have his full arsenal of check-downs and security blankets. That's what the Redskins have to deal with in Week 6.
Who: Washington Redskins (2-2) vs. Carolina Panthers (3-1)What: Game 6 of the 2018 NFL regular season When: Sunday, October 14, 2018 at 1:00 p.m. ET.Where: FedEx Field. Landover, Md.
The Redskins will be without two key players on offense as they face an important NFC game with the Panthers. Slot receiver Jamison Crowder (ankle) and third-down back Chris Thompson (ribs) are inactive for today’s game. Both players were listed as questionable on the Friday injury report. Thompson’s absence leaves the Redskins tight at running back. Kapri Bibbs, who filled in after Thompson went on injured reserve last season, will be the third-down back. Although Bibbs can be productive running and receiving there will be a drop off from Thompson’s strong pass protection ability.Adrian Peterson also was questionable with knee and shoulder injuries, but he is active and will start. He will be backed up by second-year back Samaje Perine, who is active for the first time this year. Perine started eight games last year and while there is confidence in his ability to run the ball there also is concern over ball security. Maurice Harris will start in the slot in Crowder’s place. Against the Saints, Harris had three receptions for 47 yards.
